BRIEF DESCRIPTION.

THE INITIAL CONCEPT WAS A DESIGN THAT TOOK ITS DIRECTION FROM THE LOFTS OF NYC. THE SPACE WAS TO HAVE AN INDUSTRIAL INSPIRED INTERIOR, BUT STILL MAINTAIN A LEVEL OF COMFORT AND FRESHNESS WITHIN THIS COMPACT SPACE. THE PROJECT WAS MARKETED TO A YOUNGER CLIENTELE AND THE UNITS WERE TO EITHER BE A RESIDENTIAL | HOME OFFICE UNIT OR AN OFFICE | WORK SPACE UNIT.

FOR THE RESIDENTIAL UNIT, THE SPACE WAS SMALL BUT PRESENTED AN OPPORTUNITY AS IT WAS CONSTRUCTED WITH TWO FLOORS AND A LARGE DOUBLE HEIGHT GLASS WALL. THE LIVING | WORK SPACES WERE LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR AND PRIVATE SPACES ON THE UPPER FLOOR. UPON ENTRY A FULLY FUNCTIONING KITCHEN WAS SITUATED TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND DINING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. THE DINING SPACE COULD ACCOMMODATE UP TO 6 PEOPLE IF NEEDED. WE ACHIEVED THIS EXTRA SPACE BY INTRODUCING A BANQUETTE SEAT, WHICH ALLOWED MORE PEOPLE TO USE, BUT ALSO ADDITIONAL WORK SPACE. THE STUDY SPACE WAS LOCATED NEXT TO THE DINING AREA AND WAS SELF CONTAINED BY THREE BUILT-IN CABINETS AND CONFIGURED IN A U SHAPE TO CREATE SEPARATION BETWEEN DINING AND DEDICATED WORK SPACE. THE WORKSPACE WAS COMPRISED OF UPPER AND LOWER STORAGE AND A LARGE DESK FOR TWO WORK STATIONS.

THIS WORK SPACE WAS TUCKED UNDER THE STAIRS WHICH CREATED A LARGER LIVING SPACE. FOR THE MEDIA UNIT, A WALL WAS DESIGNED IN A FRAMED METAL MESH PANEL ALLOWING THE LED SCREEN TO BE HUNG ON IT AND ALSO TO ALLOW FOR A MEDIA CABINET TO TUCK UNDERNEATH. IN USING THE METAL MESH THIS ALSO GAVE THE SPACE A FOCAL POINT AND ADDED TO THE INDUSTRIAL THEME. IT ALSO FUNCTIONED AS A SCREEN FOR THE STAIRS AND ALLOWED LIGHT TO PASS THROUGH GIVING THE SPACE THE VISUAL EXPANSION NEEDED.

A VOID WAS CREATED BY SETTING BACK THE UPPER FLOOR AND ALLOW THE DOUBLE HEIGHT WINDOW WALL TO BE UNHINDERED. BOTH THE LIVING ROOM AND BEDROOM NOW HAD EXPOSURE TO NATURAL LIGHT AND THE COMMANDING VIEWS OUTSIDE. TO ACCENT THIS VOID WE ADDED THREE DIMENSIONAL TILES AT THE STAIR BASE WHICH WENT UP THE FULL HEIGHT OF THE WALL, AND HELPED VISUALLY ELONGATE THE VERTICAL SPACE, ALLOWING THE SPACE TO LOOK EVEN LARGER AND ADDED A POINT OF REFERENCE FOR THE STAIR LOCATION.

ON THE UPPER FLOOR THERE IS A FULL SIZE MASTER BEDROOM AND ATTACHED EN-SUITE BATHROOM. STORAGE WAS DIVIDED IN BETWEEN BOTH SPACES. WARDROBE CLOSETS WERE FACING THE BEDROOM, WHILE ADDITIONAL OPEN STORAGE WAS USED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ENTRY TO THE BATHROOM. FOR THE BATHROOM, IT WAS A FULLY FUNCTIONING BATHROOM WITH A WALK IN SHOWER AND FULL WIDTH COUNTER SPACE.
